Paint stools – how to, step by step

Before you paint your stool, it is important to do some prep work. Start by sanding both the stool’s seat and legs with sandpaper. This helps to even out the surface and makes the paint stick better. Wipe off the sanding dust that settles on the wooden surface with a microfiber cloth.

If you want to be more creative and create a personal stool, you can create unique patterns. Use masking tape to make a sketch of how you want your stool to look. For example, you can divide the stool legs into different surfaces, or make a cross pattern across the seat. Here, only creativity sets limits! Just be sure to mask off anything that shouldn’t be painted. If you would rather paint your stool in one and the same color, skip this step.

Then it’s time to prime your stool. This is done to ensure that your chosen paint adheres better. When you have finished painting, let the paint dry.

Then paint two strokes on your stool with carpentry paint using a brush. On large surfaces, you can also use a mini roller. If you have taped a pattern, you must also make sure to remove it immediately after the last stroke, before the paint has dried. Done!
