Do you want to create a unique, colorful chair for your home? Maybe the flea market find needs a refresh or the IKEA chair wasn’t quite the right colour? Take tips and inspiration from this film and create a chair that is unlike any other!
Before you paint your unique chair, you need to lay out cover paper under the chair, this to protect against possible paint splashes. Then sand all surfaces of the chair to remove any unevenness and for the paint to adhere properly. Remember to be careful not to sand too deeply, as the surface may be damaged.

Remove the dust
Then carefully wipe off all sanding dust from the chair with a microfiber cloth.

Prime
Now it’s time to prime your unique chair! This is done so that the paint adheres better. Finish painting one part at a time on your chair, and look at the chair from different angles so you don’t miss anything. Use a roller for the large surfaces and a flat brush in corners and along edges. When you have finished painting, let the paint dry properly.
Then fill any nicks and deep scratches with wooden putty. Allow the putty to dry and follow the instructions on the tube/can. When the putty has dried, the surface needs to be sanded once more. Wipe off dust with a microfiber cloth.

Mask
Now it’s time to create the patterns you wish to paint for your unique chair. Use masking tape and possibly a ruler to create lines and divide the chair into different surfaces or patterns. Only your creativity sets limits! If you would rather paint in one and the same colour, we recommend our second article: Paint a stick chair – how to, step by step.

Paint
When you have finished your designs, paint the surfaces of your chair in the shades you desire. Use a roller on larger surfaces and a brush where you need extra access and precision, such as in corners and along edges. If you have a chair with a narrow backrest or a chair with a lot of detail, our Platinum Precision brush is recommended. Then let the paint dry.
Tip!
Adjust the size of the brush according to the surface to be painted, and the work goes faster
