  1. 1

    Prep work

    Protect sensitive surfaces

Cover house foundations, plants and other sensitive surfaces with plastic sheeting to protect against terrace detergent. Some detergents can affect glass and aluminum and affect other sensitive surfaces.

The next step is to wash the terrace.

    Wash the terrace

    Rinse with water

Thoroughly rinse the terrace with water. Do you use pressure washing?
Be careful not to hold the nozzle too close to the wood. The surface can be damaged if the pressure is too high.

    Wash away dirt

Spread terrace detergent evenly over the wet wood. The procedure may be different, so check which tool recommended by the manufacturer on the packaging. Then scrub off any dirt and old oil with a terrace scrubbing brush.

    Rinse and let dry

Rinse with water and let the wood dry thoroughly. Then it’s time to sand.

  3. 3

    Sand the terrace

    Sand away all irregularities

Attach the sanding paper to the sanding plate of the terrace tool. Sand away sharp edges, knots and irregularities. There are different grits of sanding paper and for the terrace 120 grit is usually adequate. Use a sanding cork for edges and smaller surfaces.

    Tip!

Attach the terrace tool to an extension pole to save power and improve reach.

    Polish and brush

Go over the surface once more time to make the wood extra barefoot-friendly. Finish by brushing away all sanding dust. In the next step, it is time to add oil.

  4. 4

    Treat the terrace

Pour oil and attach the application pad

Pour the oil into a tray to make the work easier. Remove the sanding plate and attach the application pad to the terrace tool.

Dip the terrace pad in the oil and lightly squeeze out the excess oil. Then stroke in the same direction as the grain of the wood. Our Terrace application pad helps you work faster and gives an even, thin coat without overlap marks.

    Complete with a brush

Complete with a wood care brush in crevices and on hard-to-reach details. Remember to finish a few boards at a time for best results.

Done! Now you have a barefoot-friendly terrace that stands up well to the elements.

    Tip!

Avoid oiling when the sun is out. The sun can dry out the oil before it has time to penetrate the wood. Don't oil late at night either. There is a risk that dew will form on the surface before it has time to dry.
