Measure the surfaces to be painted so the paint shop can work out how much paint you need.
Choose a gloss or semi-gloss colour for walls and shutters - matt paint is difficult to wipe off.
Remove wall sockets and switches so you don't have to mask them. But remember to cut the power first!
Attach plastic covers above cabinets and drawers, so that the plastic can be rolled up. Then you can use the kitchen between irons.
Wash away grease stains with a paint cleaner. Stains that do not disappear may need to be painted over with barrier paint, which prevents the grease from penetrating.
