Your windows need regular maintenance and painting to withstand the elements. But before you apply new paint you need to do a thorough prep work and put new putty on the window. This guide will help you lay the foundations for sealed and durable windows.

Scrape, oil and prime
Before you start, the window needs to be scraped, oiled and primed. Read more about how to do the preparatory work here: Paint windows – how to, step by step.

Add new putty
The window in the pictures below is primed and needs putty. Cut off the nozzle of the fog sprayer at a 45 degree angle and place the nozzle against the sealant neck.
Start in one corner and spread the putty in an even flow. Make sure that the putty trap is properly filled.
Then smooth the surface and remove excess putty with the putty knife.
Tip!
Also fill any gaps and cracks in the window frame with putty or wood filler.Now let the putty dry according to the instructions on the tube and then proceed with masking and painting. Read more about how to paint your window here: Paint windows – how to, step by step.
