Prep work
Before you start painting the door, it is important to make some preparations. Lift the door off and place it against a couple of pieces of wood. Unscrew hinges and handles that you don’t want paint on. You can also use masking tape if you like.
-
2
Clean
Before you start painting, wash the door with recommended detergent and then wipe with a clean cloth.

3
Scrape
Do you have an unpainted door?
If the door you are going to paint is wooden, it is important to varnish the knots before you paint so that they do not bleed through. If there is loose paint on your door, you need to scrape it off with a paint scraper. Then sand off unevenness and damage from the door with sandpaper. Wipe off the sanding dust with a microfiber cloth.

Prime
Now it’s time to prime the door. Start by painting according to 1, 2 & 3. Use an angled flat brush on the profiled edges and a mini roller for the large areas in the middle. To get a really smooth and even finish, you can also use a laying-off brush. Then stroke in the direction of the wood. Also repaint the profiled surfaces with the flat brush to get the same texture.
Then paint the horizontal frameworks (4, 5, 6 & 7) and finally the vertical ones (8 & 9).
If you have an unpainted door, you will need to prime once more before topcoating. If the door needs to be puttyed, this is done when the primer has dried.
Tip!
Wipe off paint that comes outside the profiles, otherwise there is a risk of it drying and forming an edge. -

Top coat
Then it’s time to paint with topcoat. Paint in the same way as in the previous step. Start with the door details and finish with the door frame. Done!
